The Kemper Arena (now the HY-Vee Arena) is an iconic structure located in the historic West Bottom District of Kansas City, MO, USA. Today, the arena is on the Register of Historic Buildings, signifying the fact that it was the first major project designed by famed German architect Helmut Jahn. Originally opening as a 19,500-seat sports arena that would host professional and NCAA basketball and hockey, political conventions and concerts, it was considered unique for its time as it provided uninterrupted views across the arena because of its absence of vertical support columns.
