Understanding Nut Tapping
Bent shank taps are a category of its own. It’s the only tap where the machined workpiece runs over the tap and falls off the shank-side of the cutting tool. This process is therefore known as run-over tapping. This makes tapping very efficient, as there is no need to stop and reverse the machine after threading. The process can be a bit hard to visualize, which is why the German tool manufacturer BASS created a video available on YouTube to demonstrate how it works.
