Clinch Fasteners: Designs and Applications

Clinch fasteners are commonly used in conjunction with stamped or fabricated metal assemblies. They are captive-style fasteners that – upon installation – become a permanent part of the mating assembly.

Clinch fasteners are used extensively in both automotive and non-automotive applications. They are most often used at the Tier level – by metal fabricators, metal stampers, and other contract manufacturers. They may also be used by OEM’s who do their own in-house subassembly. The design-in and specification is most often handled at the OEM level, while the procurement and usage is primarily at the Tier level.
