An Open House Celebration to Mark National Machinery’s 150th Anniversary

150 years is a long time. It takes us all the way back to 1874 – what did the world look like then?

In the food scene, Heinz was just starting to make sauces like their famous ketchup and McIlhenney Co. was making its hot Tabasco brand. The first commercial typewriter hits the market. The Bronx was annexed by New York City. The USA wasn’t even 100 years old quite yet, and we were not even a decade past the end of the Civil War. The world’s first National Park, Yellowstone, was recently established by President Grant. The use of the railroad was king for people and products. The Women’s Crusade was just starting to march against retail liquor dealers, which would later culminate in the 18th amendment to prohibit its sale.

The amount of invention and industry happening in the USA was really starting to be noticed globally. At this same time a little company of 10 employees opened up in Cleveland, OH, USA – The National Machinery Company.
