Fastener Coating Requirements for Wood Construction
by Elyse G. Levy
In the United States as well as many other jurisdictions around the world, building codes are based on the International Building Code® (IBC) and the International Residential Code® (IRC), which are published by the International Code Council. In the 2021 IBC, fastener materials required to resist corrosion due to preservative-treated and fire-retardant-treated wood are addressed in Section 2304.10.6. Similar provisions can be found in Section R317.3 of the 2021 IRC.
